You will have a choice of topics for your paper. All papers/responses should total 2000 words, be written in proper academic prose with correct grammar and spelling (though you can obviously write in the first person), and citations must follow one of the commonly accepted citation methods.
For this assignment, choose one of the following three options:
1. We did not read or discuss the chapters on Envy (Ch 4) and Wrath (Ch 7) from Glittering Vices in class. Choose one of these two chapters. Read the chapter and then answer all the Reflection Questions at the end of the chapter. Your answers do not need to form a coherent paper; you can simply number your answers and answer each question separately. However, make sure to answer each part of each question. Finally, quote and cite both Glittering Vices and at least two other articles or films from class in your responses. You must have a total of 6 quotations/citations in order to receive full credit.
2. Select a film or novel that you have watched or read that connects to one of the topics we addressed in class this semester. (devil wears prada, DeYoung Glittering Vices, Up in the Air 2009, Wall Street 1987) Write a paper that explains the connection between the film or novel and our class. Some questions you might address include, are there any particular problems in business ethics addressed in the film or novel that this class might help solve? Are there any vices addressed in the film or novel? How you write your paper will obviously vary quite a bit depending on which film or novel you choose; however, you must quote and cite at least three texts or films from class in your paper. You must have a total of 6 quotations/citations in order to receive full credit. (Note that your citations have to come from a total of 3 texts or films from our class – quoting and citing the novel or film that you write about does not count! So when thinking about what to choose, it would be very good to make sure that the novel or film connects well to one of the big topics we discussed in class; otherwise, you will struggle with this requirement.)
3. We did not discuss the paper “Strategic Planning – for the Good Life” in class. Read this paper, and answer three of the questions at the end of it. (Please indicate in some way, such as by numbering, which questions you are answering.) Your answers do not need to form a coherent paper; you can simply number your answers and answer each question separately. However, make sure to answer each part of each question. Finally, quote and cite both Glittering Vices and at least two other articles or films from class in your responses. You must have a total of 6 quotations/citations in order to receive full credit. (Please notice that for this topic, you must include at least one citation from Glittering Vices – that is not a mistake in the above bolded text. I want you to think about the vices in at least part of your response.)
