It is based on the reading “Dan Mitrione” (Week 2)
1) Include the main facts and ideas of the reading2) Write in your own words—DO NOT COPY. Write clearly, using as few words as possible3) Your goal in the weekly Paper is to cut down the original text to a much smaller size while at the same time including all important details, ideas, and facts from the reading. Notice that the piece below is cut down to a much shorter size than the original text, but it still contains all the important details.Sample for Weekly Paper: From Week 2 Reading “Dan Mitrione”“Dan Mitrione”: Dan Mitrione was a former US police officer who worked for the US Agency for International Development (USAID). While the USAID’s goal was supposedly to assist developing nations, in reality it helped brutal dictatorships torture and murder innocent people. Mitrione’s first assignment was in Brazil, working for the USAID’s Office of Public Safety (OPS—an agency connected to the CIA). There he trained security officers in electric shock torture techniques taken from KUBARK, a CIA instruction manual. Mitrione was in Brazil in 1964 when Brazil’s left-wing president Goulart was ousted in a US-backed military coup which began a period of military dictatorship. During this time, USAID (and Mitrione) were responsible for murdering and torturing thousands of Brazilians. In 1969, Mitrione moved to Montevideo, Uruguay, where he introduced “scientific methods of torture,” which included telling torture victims that recordings of screaming women and children were their relatives being tortured. He also applied electric shocks beneath the victims’ fingernails and to the genitals. Mitrione personally tortured 4 beggars to death in his home. Applying the torture methods used in the US’ Phoenix Program during the Vietnam war, USArmy doctors killed thousands as they supervised torture classes that used homeless people from the streets. Thousands more were subjected to torture in US hospitals and research facilities as part of the CIA’s Project MK-ULTRA and other mind and behavior control programs.
