The final paper will describe the historical roots and nature of a form of racial inequality and present a solution to this form of inequality. Examples of areas of inequality that you could examine include: political representation, media representation, health, education, wealth, criminal justice, residential segregation, and employment.
This paper should:
Describe the form of racial inequality that you have chosen for the assignment. This description should provide information about the current state of the inequality (e.g., statistics for how segregated schools are in the US) and the effects of this inequality (i.e. why does this matter?).
Explore intersectional differences in this inequality; how are people affected differently along the lines of class, gender, and sexuality, etc.? Please make sure to draw upon the course materials (lectures and readings) to define and use the concept of intersectionality .
Explain how this form of inequality has developed over time. Were there particular policies that led to the formation of this inequality?
Define important terms and concepts used in the paper. Do *NOT* use definitions from a dictionary or the internet for course concepts. Always use the relevant course materials to define your terms and concepts.
Describe how this form of racial inequality appears in other countries. You may do this in general terms, by describing the indicators of racism related to your form of inequality that you might look for in other national contexts. Or, you may be specific and describe how this form of inequality appears in a specific county outside of the US.
Present at least one potential solution that could eliminate or lessen this inequality. The paper must be specific about the nature of the solution. What does this solution entail? Why would it be helpful and why might it not work?
The paper must also:
Use at least THREE texts from the course. You may also reference lectures, but these do not count towards the three course texts.
Appropriately cite all sources with in-text citations and a list of references at the end of the paper. Citations are required whenever presenting ideas or text from another source, even if you are paraphrasing. You must use quotation marks to indicate phrases or sentences that come directly from other sources. APA style is preferred, but not required. If you include information or text without quotation marks and a citation, the paper will receive a zero .
Be your own, original work, with the exception of the policy solution portion of the paper. You may draw upon your presentation group’s policy.
Have a clear structure with an introduction and conclusion. You may consider using section headers to help organize your work.
Not contain numerous typos or mechanical issues relating to sentence structure, grammar, or word choice.
The text of the paper should be 1 ,700-2,250 words long. The required list of references at the end and the optional title page are not included in the word requirement.
