Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to refine our understanding of vocation to encompass the experiences of those and obstacles faced by those who might have fewer resources and possibly fewer vocational choices. These are often culturally conditioned pressures.
Instructions: You have already written a theology of vocation. Now we are asking you to revise and amend what you believe by crafting a new document that is a 500-750 word sociology of vocation.
Sociology is simply the study of groups of people and societies. Write an explanation of vocation with specific attention to the realities of cultural obstacles (political, racial, economic, educational, gender-related, etc.) and how they contribute to conceptions of vocation for those influenced by (or oppressed by) political realities, social structures, and racial injustice.
What can be confidently said about vocation to both the rich and the poor, those in first-world cultures and those in third-world cultures, and to people of all ethnicities?
How would you explain vocation to someone who does not think they have any agency over their future, which they claim is prescribed for them?
Your writing should include at least three scholarly sources and identify at least two types of people facing obstacles that limit vocational choices.
Due Monday by 11:59 pm CST.
