Prompt: Although Federalism in constitutional terms refers only to the relationship between the national government and the states, public policy making is also influenced by local governments. In most policy areas there is an ongoing interaction among all 3 levels of government. Select a policy area (I CHOSE HEALTH CARE) and write a paper in which you assess the current state of American federalism by using health care as an example. Consider the roles played by each level of government, whether any one level of government is dominant, and whether our federal system ought to be changed. You should probably start with a brief explanation of your understanding of contemporary federalism and a brief overview of what has happened recently in health care.
Personal Comments: I need at least 6-8 outside sources, but try to incorporate information from the attached files as well, especially from Chapter 5: Federalism. My policy is health care. Quotes are strongly discouraged, but make sure to use in-text citations and create an MLA works cited page.
Suggested Outline:
Intro-write about contemporary federalism and an overview of recent news with health care policies as my professor suggests (for part of this, focus on how citizens reacted to the policies – what they liked, what they didn’t like, etc.)
three bodys-each one should be about how each level of government(federal, state, and local) had a part in the health care policies (make sure to refer to each of the other types of government in each paragraph but focus on one at a time)
fourth body-write about what level of government has the most dominant and whether this is a good or bad thing and why
conclusion-write about if you think there should be a change or not and of course give a brief overview of your research
