DISCUSSION ONE: VE
It is necessary to have followers in order to be a leader; without followers, there would be no leaders to guide others. Followers are what distinguishes a leader, and a leader must be able to adapt strategies and concentrate on building a motivated team of followers who can support and effect change in order to achieve common objectives. “Motivation is a significant factor in explaining why people behave in a particular way” (Galen College of Nursing, 2018). You must set a successful example for your employees and be able to resolve current issues while also planning for the team’s future success in order to achieve your objectives as a manager or leader.
Management and other individual employees who understand the goals, their role in achieving the goals, and how their participation in achieving the goals affects the future of all other employees will have a significant impact on the outcomes of the organization. Reduced productivity, an increase in turnover, limited or nonexistent growth, and dissatisfaction are all possible outcomes if the employees choose to undermine the leadership goals.
As a charge nurse, you are responsible for the overall supervision of the unit, as well as ensuring that the staff adheres to the policies and procedures that have been established and provides safe and high-quality care. As a leader, you have the ability to influence your team members to work together as a unit, to encourage teamwork, and to provide guidance to your team members (Galen College of Nursing, 2018). I believe that a democratic leadership style is the most effective type of leadership and the most effective method of resolving conflict. The democratic leadership style encourages everyone to collaborate and discuss issues openly in order to reach a consensus on a solution that is free of bias.

DISCUSSION TWO: JS
When thinking about leaders we take into account many things. We look at the effectiveness of the style of leader, those willing to follow that leader, outcomes of following, and are those leaders developing their peers and subordinates. Goals are set by leaders who then disseminate to smaller group leaders and so on and so forth. When there is a break in the chain of leadership and those followers undermine a leaders attempt to achieve certain goals it creates an environment of mistrust. Some leaders may change their leadership styles from one type of leadership such as a democratic leadership which allows others to help in making decisions to an authoritarian style which essentially makes it their way or the highway.
I currently do not have a leadership position in the hospital and at this point in time have no desire to have one what so ever. However, in my previous career in the military I was the platoon leader which is an equivalent to a manager of a unit. Over time I went through all different styles of leadership and used certain styles of leadership when necessary and others when leniency was allowed. The most effective leadership style that I found was the Laissez-Faire Leadership style. When you give enough trust in your employees/counterparts to conduct themselves in a professional manner and do their jobs it allows them to feel empowered and creative. It shows trust on both ends of the spectrum and it allows the workers to use their minds. When workers are micromanaged there was less productivity and enjoyment of the day to day activities. The individuals are not growing to be the best they can be and are not using their own ideas. Thus, not becoming effective leaders themselves.
I apologize if I am very military minded. If you don’t want to be here then there is the door. However, in this circumstance, the way that I would deal with this situation would be to have a meeting/huddle with the team. I would figure out what the dislikes were of the leadership prior and take into account the individuals that are working in the unit. Some individuals need a little more push than others in order to complete tasks and maybe I may need to check up on some more than others. However, I would definitely use Laissez-Faire Leadership style. This allows those nurses who have been here a while to use their experience and creativity to accomplish tasks. If I were to micromanage these individuals they may want to quit/transfer and go somewhere they can utilize their skills their way. It is always good to have creative individuals with experience because what someone misses another may pick up by thinking outside of the box. With Laissez-Faire Leadership, this kind of leadership is very hands-off—managers trust their employees and are confident in their abilities. They give guidance and take responsibility where needed, but this leadership style means that subordinates and team members have the real lead (Western Governors University, 2020). I feel that this is the most effective form of leadership in this type of venue.
