Organization & Administration of Higher Educational Institutions
First, in a Microsoft Word document, describe a dilemma, issue, or tension at your selected institution that you believe needs to be understood and then solved.
What is it and why is it considered an issue or dilemma?
How do you believe it relates to a matter of organizational and/or administration at the institution?
This section should be about 500 words and include 3-5+ credible sources to support your thoughts up to this point.
Consider using a variety of sources (e.g., credible media sources, interviews with individuals involved, observations at an institution, journal articles). Cite those sources appropriately, per APA format (in-text and in references section).
Second, write a problem statement based on your institution dilemma/issue description. That is, what do you believe is an underlying problem that contributes to the dilemma/issue that you described?
Your problem statement should be specific (e.g., adjunct and tenure-track faculty cannot come to agreement on making a job offer to a candidate) rather than general (e.g., universities are inefficient in hiring). Often, a problem statement includes a need that is compelling (e.g., without hiring an additional faculty member, the department will have insufficient staff to teach its courses). Problem statements should be simply and clearly written.
You may want to try and solve the problem or explain more details about the issue beyond the world count. However, this part of the project only asks for a 500-word description of the institutional dilemma/issue and a problem statement that underpins that it.
This is a accelarated course but these are the optional readings he gave us below for the first couple of chapters if that helps any.
