One common issue for psychology researchers is that their work is misrepresented or misinterpreted in popular press. Often journalists confound correlational findings with causality. Journalist may also fail to report important limitations to a study (ex. was the study done with people with certain demographic and the journalist applied the findings to all people?). There are many solutions to the problem of misrepresentation of scientific findings in the popular press. One way you can help solve this problem is to think critically about the popular press articles you read and go back to the primary source (in this case, the research article).
You will write a paper that evaluates a popular press article written about a psychological finding. This will be a 3-page (maximum), double-spaced paper. You will also upload a PDF of the popular press article and the journal article it references. You will have the opportunity to have one of the instructors evaluate you articles and outline for feedback prior to the paper due date (see Syllabus for final day to submit your outline for feedback).
