In the nineteenth century, the Supreme Court made decisions that affected the futures of Native American tribes and African American slaves. Review the notes in Chapter 11 about the Indian Removal Act of 1830 and the Dred Scott Decision in Chapter 13. Give a brief summary of events that led up to the Supreme Court cases in Worcester v. Georgia (1832) and Scott v. Sanford (1857). Then, discuss the Supreme Court’s decision in each case and the result for Native Americans and African Americans in each case. After reading the attached article about Oklahoma and reviewing the lecture/notes in Chapter 14 about the Civil War, do you think that the conditions for Native Americans and African Americans has been resolved? I have, also, added videos for more clarity about the Indian Removal Act and the Dred Scott Decision.
