GrowHealth: Persuasive Request
GrowHealth is a community health organization that provides behavioral health services. You work in development department as a grant-writing intern, and are helping the Development Director with planning GrowHealth’s annual children’s health fair to be held in early-August, before children return to school.
The fair is a large community event where children can receive free medical checkups, dental screening, immunizations, and also learn about living a healthy life. This is the fair’s ten-year anniversary, and again this year, GrowHealth is partnering with Sharp Healthcare, AMN Healthcare, the County of San Diego and nonprofits like the Imperial Beach Community Clinic to offer its services.
Last year, the fair drew a crowd of 5,000, mostly low- and moderate-income families with no health insurance coverage for their children. The health fair is the only time that many of the participating children receive any health care each year.
The major financial sponsor for the annual event has always been Wachovia, which recently merged with Wells Fargo. Since the merger, the community support division has been restructured and Wells Fargo has changed the sponsorship and giving regulations. The GrowHealth Children’s Health Fair depends heavily on the sponsorship and financial contributions from the bank.
Task:
You must write a letter to the new Community Relations Director of Wells Fargo, Mr. William Padilla, persuading him to continue supporting the GrowHealth fair. The situation is dire: the fair will need the support of Wells Fargo in order to continue. In the past, Wachovia received prominent marketing opportunities at the fair: the bank’s logo figured prominently on all marketing material like flyers, banners, press releases and programs, bank representatives sat at a table where they could recruit customers, and the Wachovia Community Relations Officer for San Diego spoke at a reception honoring fair organizers. Attendees also included local government officials. GrowHealth plans to offer those opportunities to Wells Fargo this year.
