For your Final Project, you will apply concepts, theories, and approaches presented in the course to an interpersonal, group, organizational, or global conflict. You will select a specific approach that was examined in the course as a framework to support your discussion and analysis in the project.
Your Final Project must be presented as a 13- to 15-page (not including references, title page, or abstract), double-spaced, APA-formatted project in the form of a paper that is submitted to the Submission link by Day 7 of Week 10. Refer to Week 10 for specific instructions for submission.
The Final Project must include:
A minimum of 10 references in addition to any course readings that you wish to cite. Your citations should come from peer-reviewed journals, reputable periodicals, and non-commercial Web sites. Please note that Wikipedia is not considered a scholarly reference and thus is not accepted as a citable source. (Please consult the Walden University Library’s instructions for evaluating research resources, which includes a link to criteria for evaluating resources.)
A description of a specific conflict that you will address in this Final Project. Include all relevant history, background, primary and secondary players, salient issues, and any relevant factors related to the conflict.
A general explanation of how you would go about resolving the conflict and what goal(s) you would pursue related to it. What would resolution of the conflict look like?
A brief summary of the approach that you would use to attempt to resolve the conflict and an explanation of why you chose the approach.
An outline of the steps that you would take, based on the approach you selected, to resolve the conflict. For each step, explain what implementing it would look like with respect to your conflict.
An explanation of the relevant and most important intrapsychic, personal, interpersonal, and intergroup factors that might come into play in your conflict and what their impact might be.
A description of cultural factors that are relevant to your conflict. Explain how they contribute to the conflict, the issues that they raise, and how they might impact the process and outcome of the resolution process.
An explanation of any ethical issues that are inherent in the conflict itself or might come up in the process of resolving the conflict.
An explanation of the strengths and limitations of the specific approach that you selected as it relates to your conflict.
An explanation of how you would use the strengths of the approach to foster a resolution of the conflict.
An explanation of how you could compensate for the limitations of the approach in attempting to resolve the conflict.
A prediction of what you think the outcome might be if the parties involved in the conflict engaged in the conflict resolution process that you described. Explain why you think this outcome will come about.
You may wish to use the above bulleted items as the basis for topic headings throughout your paper.
Your Final Project will be graded on a 20-point scale and is worth 20% of your final grade.
Although the Final Project is not to be submitted until Day 7 of Week 10, you should become familiar with the project requirements and have them in mind as you proceed through the course. Many of the Discussions and Assignments relate to and can be of use in your Final Project.
The Final Project will be evaluated according to all four indicators in the Assignment and Final Paper Writing Rubric
located in the Course Info area. Be sure that the Final Project is written using APA format.
Information on scholarly writing may be found in the APA Manual (5th ed.), and at the Walden Writing Center Web site. Also see the Walden University Policies and Information, in the Guidelines and Policies, under “Policies on Academic Honesty.”
