For Project 2 in the course, you will be specifying the finishes for the living quarters (dorm room) of a teenage runaway shelter and the main entry lobby for the building (you can download the floor plan from the Reference Activity area in this course.) In the Reference Activity area of the course you will find a PDF document that includes the overall floor plans (2 floors) for your reference only and enlarged plans and elevations of the two areas for which you are specifying the finishes. All drawings can be printed to scale (listed on each drawing) by printing the pages on 8 ½ x 11 pages using actual size (not fit to page).
This shelter is funded by a non-profit organization, so funds are limited. This shelter is intended to provide an uplifting and engaging space for underprivileged youth to learn, grow, and connect with each other and the community. The spaces you design must support high traffic, high user turnover, be gender-neutral and appropriate to residents aged 10-17. The materials you select must be sustainable, durable, and low-maintenance while being interesting. This project will help you to understand what materials are used in a real space, how they support the concept, how they work together to create the whole space, and how they are documented.
