Find two pieces of music, preferably from your own personal playlist. One piece should have largely “block” chord harmony (as demonstrated by Chopin’s Prelude in E minor that you heard in the lecture. The other piece should have largely “arpeggiated” (broken) chords (as demonstrated by Yiruma’s Kiss the Rain from the the lecture. Include links to the recordings in your submission document and make sure to label which is block chord and which is arpeggiation. Include time markers to indicate specifically in the tune where you are hearing each type of harmony.
Additionally, write a brief description about how the composer used aspects of harmonic construction (consonance, dissonance, resolution) to create emotion and meaning in each piece. Also describe any changes that occurred in the harmonic construction (i.e., from block chords to arpeggios, or vice-versa) and how this affected (or not) the emotional impact of the music.
