Final: Long Paper Presentation (5%)
Your final exam for IDS 3304 Agents of Change is a five-minute PowerPoint presentation on your Long Essay. Your audience will learn important information about your topic from your presentation. You have to present the information on the agent/s of change about whom you wrote your paper by utilizing two distinct sources that represent two different disciplinary approaches or methodologies.
Examples 1) and 2)
1) If in your Long Paper you wrote about human dignity and the economic agency of the underclass working in sweatshops, you could incorporate a sociological text that studies the structural injustice and exploitation of workers in sweatshops (Example: Berkey, “Sweatshops, Structural Injustice, and the Wrong of Exploitation: Why Multinational Corporations Have Positive Duties on the Global Poor,” Journal of Business Ethics, Arp. 2021, vol, 169, Issue 1, pp. 43-56) anda literary or journalistic narrative (Example: K. T. George, “Sweatshop Boys” (https://ktgeorge.com/series-sweatshop/).
2) If in your Long Paper you wrote about human dignityand the effects of exploiting children in industrial societies, you could incorporate a sociological text that studies child labor(Example: Figueiredo and Renato, “Unintended Consequences of Trade Integration on Child Labor,” Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, vol. 194, Feb 2022, pp. 523-541) and a biomedical text (Example: Moure-Eraso and Friedman-Jimenez, “Occupational Health among Latino Workers: A Needs Assessment and Recommended Interventions,” A Journal of Environmental and Occupational Health Policy, vol. 14, 4, pp. 319-347), or a literary or journalistic narrative (Example:Child Labor Stories –https://www.ilo.org/wcmsp5/groups/public/—ed_norm/—declaration/documents/publication/wcms_decl_fs_44_en.pdf).
While designing your PowerPoint, you should take into consideration the following:
– Font
o Use Sans serif fonts (these have fewer embellishments than the serif fonts, making it easier for the eyes to follow the writing)
o Examples of sans serif fonts, which you should use: Helvetica, Arial
o Examples of serif fonts, which you should not use: Times New Roman
o As a general rule, use at least 28 point font size for the body of the text and 38 for the heading text
– Colors
o Perhaps 10% of people are colorblind, so avoid using combinations of red and green (red text on a green background, for example)
o Use dark text on a light background if the room is large
o Pay attention to the shades: those you see on your monitor are not necessarily those you will see on the screens your audience will see
– Text and white space
o Blank space is necessary
o Standard limit: seven lines, seven words each (7×7). No full sentence (unless you have a quotation)
– Works Cited Page
o All sources you used in your presentation should be on a slide or on a few slides following the presentation
