Essay #3 Prompt
You will choose one of the following three questions for this essay:
How is Orpheus’s gaze backwards represented in 2 different Orpheus/Eurydice pieces? Is the event presented differently, but seems to have the same meaning? Is the event the same, but the meaning is different? Explain in detail these literary differences and/or similarities.
How are the characters presented in 2 different Orpheus/Eurydice pieces? What might different characterizations say about the author’s perception of the myth?
Choose 2 poems we’ve looked at this semester, and describe how they use similar literary devices to convey different meanings, or different literary devices to convey the same meaning. Explain the devices, their functions, and their meanings in specific detail.
Whichever you choose, you must include at least 2 primary sources from texts you have been assigned on Blackboard, and include a minimum of 2 quotes from each source. I will provide optional secondary sources on Orpheus and Eurydice, but you may also conduct your own research through the BMCC library databases. Please include MLA Format In-text Citations, and a Work Cited page.
