Project Description:
Follow the Project Explanation Videos and Description below to complete your Final Project for this class, which is worth 25% of your class grade according to the syllabus.
Design of an Engineering device that provides a solution option for a common problem. Please watch embedded video below to understand exactly what this project is all about. The information is outlined below the video, please neglect the timeline discussed in the video as it was specific to the summer semester.
Deliverables List for this Project (Details for each step of the report are below this section):
Specification Document – 150 pts: 130 points report content + 20 points for revised report resubmission showing improvements.
Technical document that documents your invention or innovation with writing, photos, computer aided models and charts through each of the 8 steps of the Design Process as described below in Descriptions of the individual steps. Each step should have 3-5 paragraphs, which may include images, links, references, lists, graphs, and/or charts.
Your document should include the following sections documenting your product. See the bottom part of this assignment for details about each part.
Introduction/Abstract – 10 pts
Define the Problem you are solving – 20 pts
Research summary and findings – 20 pts
Requirements for your product – 20 pts
Brainstorm (ideas and aspects you thought of), Evaluate, Choose Solution- include sketches andnotes of evidence for brainstorming. – 20 pts
Documentation of developing the prototype (CAD models, physical prototypes) – included in 50 pts below for prototype
Test the prototype and document the results – 20 pts
Does the prototype meet the requirements to solve the problem? What would you improve?- 20 pts
Note: most weekly lessons/assignments will have one aspect that will help in this overall project, such as studying innovation companies, practicing the design process, and learning some basic Computer Aided Modeling and Drafting.
2. Actual prototype of device – 50 points
include pictures and/or video of your prototype in the report in the Develop Prototype step.
This grade (up to 50 points) based on level of effort, quality, and meaning/value toward project development of prototype created.
