Step-by-step guide for writing your Reflective Discussion:

Step 1: Break down the instructions.

  • You need four paragraphs in total.

  • Paragraphs 1–3: Identify and discuss three concepts from the course and explain how they apply to your work, profession, or future career.

  • Paragraph 4: Reflect on how the course materials or assignments shaped or reshaped your perception of HRM in the private sector.

Step 2: Plan your three concepts.
Think about topics from readings, lectures, or assignments. Examples might include:

  • The strategic role of HRM

  • Employee training and development

  • Performance management

  • Recruitment and retention

  • Workplace culture or employee engagement

Choose three that stand out to you and jot down how they connect to your experiences or goals.

Step 3: Structure Paragraphs 1–3.
Each of these paragraphs should follow this pattern:

  1. Introduce the concept.

  2. Explain what you learned about it in the course.

  3. Apply it to your work, profession, or career plans (make it personal and reflective).

Step 4: Structure Paragraph 4.

  • Start by naming the part of the course that most influenced your view of HRM (e.g., assignments, background materials, or case studies).

  • Explain your previous perception of HRM.

  • Describe how your perception changed or deepened after engaging with the material.

Step 5: Write your draft.

  • Keep the tone reflective and personal (use “I learned…” or “I realized…”).

  • Make sure each paragraph has a clear focus.

  • Aim for about 4–6 sentences per paragraph.

Step 6: Revise and polish.

  • Ensure that all four paragraphs flow logically.

  • Double-check grammar and spelling.

  • Confirm that you directly answered the prompt.

Quick Example Outline:

  • Paragraph 1: Strategic role of HRM — HR as more than administrative, but as a driver of business success.

  • Paragraph 2: Employee development — importance of training and continuous learning.

  • Paragraph 3: Performance management — feedback, accountability, and growth.

  • Paragraph 4: Course assignments reshaped your view of HR as a key competitive advantage in private-sector organizations.
