5. A late entry into our portfolio of geometrical lenses on perception has been the hierarchy. What are some examples of hierarchy, both in the stimulus-to-be-perceived and in the perceiving organism? In what ways could hierarchies enrich once-seeming-impoverished stimuli? In what ways could hierarchies enable the perceiving organisms to reshape, redefine, and reinterpret stimuli? And how do hierarchies nesting multiple scales start to extend our previous understanding that Fourier’s concern for oscillations at many separate scales?
